Im going camping at Meacham Lake in Northern Adirondacks in New York State at the end of May. Does anyone know how bad the Black Flys are up there, and anyways to keep them off you?

We went to Golden Beach Campground which is south of where you are going end of may in 2021. We got slammed by black flies. Nothing much helped. But the views of the lake were still unbeatable.

  2. I used to backpack in the Adirondacks and the Greens [VT]. After a warm/wet spring the mosquitos, black flies and no-see-ums used to eat us alive. I didn’t like 100% DEET on my face so I used regular or Deepwoods Off on bare skin and wore long pants with a long-sleeved shirt sprayed with Off. I’d respray as needed.

    Eventually, I became a Fall/Winter hiker.
