As camping season approaches, I wanted to share this little message. I hope that’s ok.

We have a severely disabled adult son, so our life looks very different these days.

When we were younger, it was still hard. Really hard. We pushed ourselves to do it all because it felt like it would matter someday.

Voyageurs, off-grid camping, houseboat trips, dog sledding…everything we could.

I think part of me always knew it would get harder as he got older, bigger, and stronger.

And honestly, that’s true for all of us in different ways. Whether it’s caregiving or just life in general…things get harder. Bodies get older.

So if you’re sitting there wondering whether you should go and you can? Please, go.

As I grow older, the most beautiful thing I have is all the memories of our absolutely wild adventures.

I wish you all the happiest adventures this summer and I cannot wait to see them all.

These days, we live in the woods in a home we built for our son, where we can “pretend camp.” But nothing gives me more life than watching you all go.
