Went to Table by Bruno Verjus on our honeymoon and came away a little underwhelmed.
The food was unquestionably very good. High-level ingredients, serious technique, clearly a lot of skill in the kitchen. I’m not here to say it was bad, because it wasn’t. But for roughly €500 per person with drinks, I wanted more than just “very good.”
We sat at the chef’s counter, which I thought would make the experience feel more special. Instead, the staff service was warm, but the cooks felt pretty stiff, and the head chef definitely gave off a strong “very impressed with himself” vibe. That may work for some people, but it made the whole thing feel a little self-conscious rather than hospitable.
The bigger issue is that nothing really stood out. Everything was uniformly high quality, but there wasn’t a moment, dish, or interaction that made me think, wow, this is why this place has the reputation it does. No surprises, no real emotional high point, no sense that we were having some once-in-a-lifetime meal. For a honeymoon dinner, that was kind of a bummer.
So yeah, excellent food, obvious talent, but for the price and hype, it felt more admirable than memorable.
