Avignon (Provence)
The city of Avignon is located on the banks of the Rhône River.
It’s dominated by the massive Palace of the Popes,
which was built in the Middle Ages when the papacy had settled there,
and since then, it’s the largest Gothic palace in the world.
And inside, you’ll see vast halls that reflect this historical period.
And just outside the city walls,
there is the famous Bridge of Avignon stretching out over the river with its few remaining arches.
Now, in the old town, you’ll walk across several squares of different sizes,
all connected by charming streets.
And every summer, for three weeks, the city hosts the Avignon Festival,
one of the most important theater festivals in the world.
