Step into a peaceful POV sunrise run through Herzegovina, journeying from Međugorje to Čapljina on Palm Sunday 2026, covering approximately 16 km across one of the most geologically and historically stratified regions of the western Balkans.
The run begins in near-total stillness before dawn in Međugorje. Beneath fading night skies, the absence of sound—amplified through a pure ASMR recording—draws attention to the gradual emergence of form as darkness recedes into diffused morning light.
Moving southward, the route traverses the small settlements—Bijakovići, Miletina, and Šurmanci—whose spatial organization reflects long-standing adaptations to the karst geomorphology of Herzegovina. Characterised by porous limestone, limited surface water, and thin soils, this terrain has historically necessitated dispersed habitation, viticulture, and mixed subsistence practices. Stone-built houses, terraced plots, vineyards, and fig trees are not merely aesthetic features but material responses to environmental constraint, embedding human activity directly into the geological fabric of the region.
As the run progresses, the landscape undergoes a pronounced ecological and visual transition upon entering the Neretva basin, one of the most significant hydrological and agricultural zones in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
