Most travel videos show you Split at golden hour, when the light is soft and the crowds have gone home. This is not that video. This is Split at the peak of summer, in the hottest hour of the day — when the limestone glows white, the cicadas never stop, and the ancient stones of Diocletian’s Palace radiate seventeen centuries of sunshine. This is what Split really feels like.
🗺️ WHERE & HOW TO GET THERE
Split is the largest city on the Croatian coast, in the heart of Dalmatia. Split Airport (SPU) is just 24 km from the city center, with direct flights from most European cities. Ferries connect Split to Hvar, Brač and the Adriatic islands.
🏛️ ARCHITECTURE
The walk begins inside a living Roman palace. Emperor Diocletian built his retirement home here in 305 AD — and people never stopped living in it. Roman peristyle columns, a medieval bell tower, Venetian Gothic palaces on Pjaca square, and the elegant Marmontova promenade all share the same few hundred meters.

Beyond the palace walls: quiet side streets where laundry hangs between stone facades, the old tea houses, local konobas hidden in shaded alleys, and the modern marina where Split’s everyday life continues far from the crowds.
