Almost like the Maldives: Holidays on the beautiful Lake Constance in Germany
🇩🇪 **ULM TO LAKE CONSTANCE | BODENSEE DAY TRIP**
Today I’m taking you along on my trip from **Ulm to Lake Constance (Bodensee)** in southern Germany! 🌊🏔️
This was my experience exploring one of Germany’s most beautiful lake regions, enjoying the views, walking around, exploring the area and experiencing the atmosphere of Bodensee.
If you’re a student living in Germany, an international student planning to move here, or simply looking for beautiful places to visit in Germany, this vlog will give you an idea of what a day trip to Lake Constance can look like.
🌊 **ABOUT LAKE CONSTANCE**
Lake Constance, known as **Bodensee in German**, is located in the heart of Europe and the region stretches across **Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein**.
The German side of the lake includes destinations such as Lindau, Friedrichshafen, Meersburg, Überlingen and Constance (Konstanz).
It is known for:
🏔️ Alpine views
🌊 Beautiful lake scenery
🚲 Cycling routes
🥾 Hiking
🏘️ Historic towns
⛵ Boat trips
☀️ Summer activities

The official Lake Constance tourism organisation describes the region as a four-country destination and highlights activities ranging from hiking and cycling to city hopping and water activities.
🚆 **MY JOURNEY: ULM → LAKE CONSTANCE**
📍 Starting point: Ulm, Germany
📍 Destination: Lake Constance / Bodensee
Depending on which part of Lake Constance you want to visit, you can travel by regional train and/or bus.
Popular destinations include:
📍 Friedrichshafen
📍 Lindau
📍 Meersburg
📍 Überlingen
📍 Konstanz
💡 **IMPORTANT:** Travel times and connections change depending on your exact destination, date and any construction or timetable changes. Check the DB Navigator app shortly before travelling.
🎟️ **TRAVEL TIP FOR STUDENTS**
Before travelling, compare your ticket options.
If you have a **Deutschlandticket**, check whether your entire route can be completed using regional/local transport. The Deutschlandticket is valid on eligible local and regional public transport, but not generally on ICE/IC/EC long-distance services.
Always check your specific connection before travelling.
💰 **HOW MUCH DOES THE TRIP COST?**
Your total cost depends on:
• Your starting point in Ulm
• Which part of Lake Constance you visit
• Your train/bus ticket
• Whether you already have a Deutschlandticket
• Food and activities
• Boat/ferry tickets, if you use them
So don’t assume that every Lake Constance trip will cost the same.
🌊 **WHAT CAN YOU DO AT BODENSEE?**
You can spend a full day simply enjoying the lake, or plan a much bigger trip.
Some popular activities include:

You can also combine different destinations around the lake depending on how much time you have.
❤️ **MY EXPERIENCE**
For me, the best part wasn’t just reaching the lake.
It was the journey itself — travelling through southern Germany, seeing the landscape change and finally arriving at Bodensee.
As someone living in Germany as an international student, these small trips are becoming some of my favourite experiences.
