As a fashion trend analyst, I get a constant stream of outfit inspiration simply by living in New York City. All I need to do is ride the subway or walk to a bodega to see the hottest up-and-coming fall trends. The main ones to look for this season? Olive suede bags, cerulean blue tees, fringe jackets, and zebra-print shoes.
With that in mind, I’ve curated several fall outfit ideas inspired by current trends taking over the city streets. For your own fall mood board, here’s a taste of what the most stylish women across the five boroughs will be wearing when the weather turns.

Andy Sachs would certainly approve of the cerulean blue hues trending in New York City this season. The color pairs well with tan and butter yellow, another one of the year’s key shades. And animal print accessories remain as popular as ever, with zebra, tiger, and deer prints leading the charge.

Athletic wear remains a key influence for casual attire. After a spring of rugby tees and a summer of soccer jerseys, New Yorkers have anointed baseball tees as fall’s must-have top. You’ll often see sporty styles juxtaposed against polished trousers, pencil skirts, and ladylike pumps.

New Yorkers aren’t known to follow rules when it comes to getting dressed, so they’ll be wearing white jeans well past Labor Day. Tomato-red sweaters and crewneck sweatshirts add a nice pop of color to neutral looks.

New Yorkers are often wearing ballet flats (namely Maison Margiela Tabis) with bootcut jeans. The late-2000s styling reference feels particularly modern among the city’s infamous all-black palette.

Knee-high boots will help transition Bermuda shorts and baggy capris into fall. On warmer days, women in trendy neighborhoods like Soho and Williamsburg will finish the look with a white tank or fitted tee, then add a suede jacket or slouchy sweater when the weather turns.
