Beverly Hills has held a solid base of kosher dining for years, but it rarely lands a name of this weight. Malka, the kosher restaurant that made Eyal Shani a fixture in Tel Aviv and New York, is opening its first West Coast location inside the SIXTY Beverly Hills hotel this September. For kosher diners in Los Angeles, this is the arrival of a Michelin-starred kitchen that treats kosher as a starting point rather than a limitation.
We first covered the news when Malka’s LA expansion was announced earlier this summer. Now the opening is set.
The Chef and the Concept
Eyal Shani is the mind behind Miznon, HaSalon, Shmoné, and a long roster of restaurants across Tel Aviv, New York, and Europe. He earned a Michelin star for Shmoné in Greenwich Village. Malka opened in Tel Aviv in 2018 as his first kosher restaurant, and it built its reputation on the instinct that runs through all his cooking: fresh produce, olive oil, and vegetables treated as the main event. Shani has said that cooking kosher changes very little in his kitchen, since he rarely reaches for butter, milk, or cream anyway. The Beverly Hills project comes through a partnership with Los Angeles-based Pagani Projects, led by Giancarlo Pagani, the same operator behind Shani’s Miznon locations.
What to Expect on the Menu
The dish that defines Malka is the Queen Malka Schnitzel, a chicken schnitzel pounded thin and stuffed with mashed potato that spills open when you cut into it. It usually arrives with sauerkraut, mustard, and a beetroot relish, and it has pulled in both kosher and non-kosher crowds at every Malka location so far. Around it, the menu carries Branzino Hraime, onglet served over roasted white peaches, and Shani’s Israeli-style hummus.
Several plates were built specifically for Los Angeles, including Melanzana, a Niçoise salad, and a Wild King Ora Salmon Bruschetta. The kitchen leans on California produce through the season, working figs, pluots, and peaches into the rotation. The menu shifts with what the farmers bring in, so no two visits look the same.
The Bar and the Room
Malka is pouring kosher wines and cocktails, with two drinks made only for Beverly Hills. The Iris combines vodka, white peach-mint purée, and lemon. The Pomelo Paloma pairs mezcal with fresh pomelo and lime.
Jacob Turgeman Design handled the space, which centers on a sculptural white oak bar with brass finishes and a mix of communal and intimate seating.
Malka’s Other Kosher Locations
If you keep kosher and travel, Malka is worth knowing beyond Beverly Hills. The brand runs kosher locations on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, in DUMBO in Brooklyn, and in West Palm Beach, Florida, alongside the original in Tel Aviv. Menus at each location shift with the season, so the lineup varies from city to city.
Malka’s LA Location
Malka is located at SIXTY Beverly Hills, 9360 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, on the corner of Wilshire and Crescent Drive near Rodeo Drive.
It is kosher certified by the OK / RCC. Hours and reservation details for the Beverly Hills location have not yet been published. Valet parking is available through the hotel, with metered street parking along Wilshire.
