Los Angeles has plenty of stunning restaurants, but how many can say they’re inside a nearly century-old church? The newly opened Sous Sous is bringing a distinctly unexpected dining experience to Silver Lake, tucked inside the former sanctuary of a 1931 Romanesque church.
Located at Hotel Lucile, the new restaurant officially opened on September 14th after years of work transforming the historic property. The former church and rectory now house a 25-room boutique hotel, with the original architecture still playing a starring role.
Southern France meets the American South
Sous Sous comes from the team behind De La Nonna, with chef Patrick Costa at the helm. The menu combines the flavors of Southern France and the American South, with a particular emphasis on seafood.
Expect a seafood-focused menu featuring fresh catches, a raw bar, seasonal vegetables and dishes that blend French culinary traditions with Southern flavors.
And then there’s the setting. The restaurant occupies the church’s former sanctuary, where soaring ceilings, stained-glass windows and historic architectural details create a dramatic backdrop for dinner.
A new chapter for a Silver Lake landmark
Sous Sous is part of Hotel Lucile, a new boutique hotel inspired by Silver Lake’s history of art, architecture and creative reinvention.
The property has transformed the longtime church and rectory into a neighborhood gathering place with a restaurant, bar, café and spaces for cultural events. The hotel also hosts programming including Sunday brunches, artist residencies and other community events.
