Nice is a Mediterranean city, port, and commune in southeastern France in the Provence-Alpes-CΓ΄te d’Azur region. It is the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes department, the arrondissement of Nice, and nine cantons (Nice-1βNice-9).
As of 2022, the population was 343,629, making it the second-largest city in the department after Marseille and the fifth-largest in France after Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and Toulouse. It is a major transportation hub and one of the main resorts on the CΓ΄te d’Azur (or French Riviera). It is located 30 km from the border with Italy.
Nice is the cultural and economic center of the region. Its main industries are tourism, finance, and administration. It ranks second in the country in hotel capacity; approximately 5 million tourists visit the city annually. The city’s signature landmark is the famous Promenade des Anglais. On July 27, 2021, “Nice, Winter Resort of the Riviera” was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
