A man suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday after he was stabbed on a Muni bus by another passenger in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, police said.
The stabbing happened at around 1:41 p.m. near 10th and Mission streets, according to the San Francisco Police Department. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, but his condition as of Wednesday evening was unknown.
Authorities did not specify which bus the man was riding when he was stabbed.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency issued an alert just before 2 p.m. that the inbound 14 Mission bus and 14 Mission Rapid bus would reroute via Market Street between 10th and 11th streets due to police activity in the area. Both buses resumed regular service around 3:30 p.m., SFMTA later said.
“We thank our operator and the SFPD for their swift reporting and response which led to a quick return of our Muni service,” SFMTA Chief Spokesperson Erica Kato said in a statement.
SFPD said officers canvassed the area and arrested a suspect Wednesday afternoon based on a preliminary investigation. It was not immediately clear if the suspect remained in custody, and police did not provide further details.
