The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and the Seoul Tourism Organization have selected 18 accommodations as the “2026 Best Seoul Stay,” recognizing accommodations that showcase Seoul’s unique charm and stories. As immersive travel experiences that allow visitors to experience everyday life in Seoul become a new travel trend, interest is also growing in accommodations that capture the city’s unique character and charm.
Seoul Stay is a support program operated by the SMG to encourage the registration of urban homestays and hanok stay accommodations for foreign tourists and strengthen their operational capabilities. Currently, approximately 803 businesses are registered and operating under the program.
A total of 48 accommodations applied for this year’s selection. Following a two-stage evaluation process consisting of a document review and an on-site assessment by experts, 18 accommodations were ultimately selected, including 10 urban homestays and 8 hanok stay accommodations.
Notably, this year’s selection placed greater emphasis on “sustainable accommodations” that prioritize safety and coexistence with local residents. The weighting of safety and fire-prevention criteria was increased, and safety experts participated in the on-site evaluation process. The evaluation process was further strengthened by adding inadequate facility safety management as a criterion for point deductions, enhancing the effectiveness and rigor of the selection process.
Selected accommodations will receive up to KRW 5 million in project funding that can be used for interior improvements and safety upgrades. They will also be provided with opportunities to participate in tourism marketing programs operated by the SMG and the Seoul Tourism Organization, as well as support for social media promotion and marketing.
