Clay Oven, which has been serving customers in the town for the past 18 years, picked up the accolade at the Curry Life Awards 2026 during a ceremony held at the InterContinental London Park Lane this month.
More than 500 guests attended the awards, which celebrate the best restaurants, takeaways and chefs from across Britain.
The event was hosted by BBC presenters and journalists Jon Kay and Luxmy Gopal and brought together leading figures from the hospitality industry.
For Clay Oven owner Millul Chowdhury, the award is recognition of almost two decades of hard work and dedication.
Today, his sons and other family members work alongside him, while he remains hands-on in the kitchen, blending his own spices and passing on the knowledge he has gained during his years in the industry.
The takeaway’s chef’s specials include its Rajeshwari dish, which combines chicken tikka with tomatoes, chutney, green chillies and garlic.
Speaking after the win, Millul said receiving the award “feels really good”, paying tribute to his family, staff and customers for their support over the years.
The Curry Life Awards saw 41 honours handed out across a range of categories following a public voting process and judging panel assessment.
