New York streets were recently filled with runway shows, designer presentations and fashion events from Sept. 10 to Sept. 15, showcasing the upcoming Spring/Summer 2027 collections. Bringing together established fashion houses, emerging designers, celebrities and industry leaders, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) once again transformed the city into a stage for the future of fashion.
One of the pre-week highlights came from Harlem’s Fashion Row, which hosted its 19th Annual Fashion Show & Style Awards at The Glasshouse in New York. The event, themed “Peace by Piece,” celebrated emerging designers through a runway showcase and awards ceremony, recognizing their contributions to the fashion industry. Designer Waïna Chancy, the founder and creative director of the brand Atelier Ndigo, took home the $100,000 prize after winning the competition where she debuted a breathtaking Spring/Summer 2027 collection, inspired by her home country, Haiti.
Ralph Lauren carried on the pre-week momentum with an intimate presentation of his Spring 2027 women’s collection at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Lower Manhattan. The collection embraced “an irreverent take on romance,” the infamous designer described in his show notes, according to Page Six.
“Think voluminous pants, slim jackets and gorgeous evening options in silk lamés and velvets,” Lauren said.
The presentation also drew in an all-star crowd including Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana DeBose and Anna Wintour seated front row.
The official start to NYFW kicked off on Sept. 10, following early presentations and preview events from brands. One of the day’s most anticipated events included Henry Zankov’s debut as creative director for Diane von Furstenberg. The milestone show marked the brand’s first appearance at NYFW in nine years. For this historic return, Zankov reinterpreted the brand’s iconic wrap dress and 1970’s silhouettes through a fresh perspective. His collection beautifully honored the house’s empowering legacy while incorporating his signature graphic knitwear textures and fluid drapery to create this striking and memorable showcase.
Continuing through the week, indie label Eckhaus Latta captured widespread attention by partnering with J. Crew for a unique runway collaboration. The duo debuted a 27-piece fall collection, expanding on their viral “Rollneck Remix.” Eckhaus Latta chose to reimagine the 1990’s J. Crew catalog archives through Eckhaus Latta’s downtown, unconventional proportions and utilitarian aesthetic. This new lineup emphasized classic Americana, featuring rollneck sweaters, double-waisted chinos, rugged barn jackets and duffle coats.
NYFW was also a week for celebration as many big-name heritage brands welcomed major milestones in the fashion industry. Coach celebrated its 85th anniversary following its Spring 2027 show at Pier 36. Creative director Stuart Vevers chose the theme “Love Is the Message” for the milestone, focusing on how clothes gain meaning through time, wear and memory.
Carolina Herrera marked its 45th anniversary with an opulent show at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, revisiting classic styles such as white shirting, sculptural ruffles and vibrant florals.
Rachel Comey celebrated 25 years in fashion at the Judson Theatre, featuring cracked leather, satin surfaces and chenille tank dresses. Comey dedicated this milestone collection to late painter, playwright and professional wrestler Rosalyn Drexler.
After a breathtaking week in fashion, NYFW closed out with Thom Browne’s theatrical presentation at The Shed in Hudson Yards. The runway featured a dark, surreal garden covered in faux grass, giant leaves and monumental branches. Inspired by the classic Disney film “A Bug’s Life,” the garments reflected these critters with ant-embroidered embellishments, butterfly-wing gowns and a sculptural ladybug dress.
From emerging designers making their mark to heritage houses celebrating decades of influence, this season’s NYFW once again proved to be the place for bold statements, creativity and unforgettable moments in fashion.
