Hello everyone and welcome back to our Switzerland road trip.

In our previous episode we embarked on a road trip to Disentis / Mustér in the Canton of Graubünden (The Grisons) were we stayed in a cute apartment at the Catrina Resort.

While we were staying there we kept seeing this suspicious looking building from our room. From afar it looked like it could be an abandoned hotel – and so it is! Of course curiosity got the best of us and we had to check it out. 🙂 As it turns out, the former “Hotel Acla” has been sitting there rotting away for the past 19 years due to its contamination with Asbestos.

For dinner we went to a cute little restaurant called “Ustria Fravia”. It is owned by an elderly lady and only has a handful of items on the menu as she is not only the owner but also the Chef. We obviously had to try the most famous local dishes – Capuns & Maluns.

Capuns is a traditional food from the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland, predominantly made in the western part of Grisons. They are made from Spätzle dough with pieces of dried meat, such as air-dried beef, and rolled in a chard leaf. Whereas Maluns is made of grated potatoes and served with apple sauce and some deliciously flavorful Swiss cheese.

We had a wonderful time here and spent the evening chatting to the owner. After we told her about our interest in the abandoned Hotel Acla, she told us there was another abandoned hotel near Disentis. For that you’ll have to wait until the next episode. 🙂
