This is a slideshow video (instead of my usual live video shoot as I only started doing the latter quite recently) of my then visit to Penang (Georgetown) in Malaysia, located on the northwest coast of Peninsula Malaysia by the Malacca Strait.
George Town is the colorful, multicultural capital of the Malaysian island of Penang. Once an important Straits of Malacca trading hub, the city is known for its British colonial buildings, Chinese shophouses and mosques. Beyond the old town, George Town is a modern city with skyscrapers and shopping malls. Verdant Penang Hill, with hiking and a funicular railway, overlooks it all. Penang is a food paradise, comprising of many local and multi-racial cuisines.
I have been to Penang, the Pearl of the Orient in Southeast Asia a few times over the years and not surprising since it is next to Singapore, it naturally becomes an ideal short get-away holiday destination. Taking a flight here is about 70mins or you can board an overnight coach that will take 8-10 hours (with stops along the way) or railway.
In this leg of my tour, I visited some of the key attractions such as the Fort Cornwallis, Nyonya Museum, Sun Yat Sen Museum, Gurney Drive (a local open air food market), several shopping malls such as Komtar and Times Square etc. I have skipped the trip to Penang Hill (covered in my previous trips quite a long time ago) and also those religious temples.
And throughout my visit here, besides shopping, it’s most eating, eating and eating. The food is nice and relatively cheap.
