I was curious about buying a vehicle in Mexico as a tourist on an FMM visa and registering it in my name. I spent hours doing the research to see if this would even be possible/legal and to my delight, I found it is possible! From what I understand, it’s only possible in a few states of Mexico, but you don’t necessarily have to live in those states to do it.

Cost 3500 pesos for registration, 420 pesos for shipping with FedEx (price depends on your location), and 1000 pesos to record the transfer of ownership, if this applies to you. Total cost for me was 4920 pesos = $248 USD. It took around 3 weeks to go through the whole process from initial contact (with me paying and submitting scanned copies of the required documents the next day) to have the license plates in hand.

Hannah and Thomas met in Bali around Christmas 2019. They have been traveling Southeast Asia together ever since.
