THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO BUKOVEL:

If you’re looking to learn about the largest ski resort in Eastern Europe then this is the video for you. This full length episode is all about Bukovel, Ukraine. The resort is located in the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains and is part of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (region). The resort-town itself has so much to offer. From winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, to traditional food, hot tubs, and hiking, there’s something for everyone.

I went opening week 2020 and stayed for a full week to make this video. While much of the snow came from the machines, there were still a few days of heavy snow which really made the whole town glisten.

This episode is comprised of 10 different segments so feel free to jump around, or watch start to finish for the full experience.

This trip was also the first time I took a ski lesson and I have to mention that my teacher was fantastic. His youtube is SkiHub and you can follow him here:

While there is no airport in Bukovel, it isn’t really that difficult to get to. If you are visiting from Kyiv you can take a train to Ivano-Frankivsk and then catch a bus to the resort. If you are coming from Lviv you can also take a train to Ivano-Frankivsk, but there are a few daily busses that go directly to Bukovel from the main Lviv bus terminal.

While Bukovel is considered expensive for Ukraine, it is far cheaper than the western European ski resort towns. A three day unlimited lift ticket is around $60 and equipment rentals start at around $7 a day (skis, helmet, sticks, protective clothing, boots). If you just want to ski a little a 3 hour lift pass is $14.
