The Portland line in south-western Victoria, Australia has been out of use for a number of years. Late last Spring it was re-certified for use and in November 2020 loaded grain trains began running to the seaside town from western Victoria under the operation of Pacific National.

In this video we see Pacific National Standard Gauge locomotives on grain trains returning from Portland to the Horsham area to reload with export grain.

This video was recorded on a Samsung Galaxy S8 mobile phone over two different days, which explains why the viewer will see a change in locomotive and wagon consists, with the first scenes featuring an ex-South Australian locomotive (BL31) and two Victorian locos (G520 and XR558) with mostly NSW wagons, while later scenes feature G540 and XR559 with NSW 81 class engine 8101 (nearly 40 years old!) in the middle of the trio, with all Victorian grain hoppers.

I hope the viewer enjoys this look at a different part of Australian railways, and will tune in to many of my other videos featuring trains, trams, some aircraft, and some ferries, from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK.
