We absolutely love traveling south across the border to Baja Mexico to enjoy their fair share of wineries. It takes approximately 90 minutes (maybe longer if you stop for some food and tequila) to drive into Valle de Guadalupe where it hosts over one hundred and fifty wineries to date. Many of the wineries are generationally owned hailing from Russia, Spain, Italy, France, American, and of course Mexican.

There are few ways to get there via the toll highway towards Ensenada, taking the two-lane road up through the valley with spectacular views of the countryside, and another highway leading towards Tecate east of San Diego.

This trip we took back in November was during the pandemic and everyone who worked at the wineries was incredibly responsive to the guidelines of masks, hand sanitizers, spacing, etc.

1st winery – Cuatro Cuatros
This winery is completely inconspicuous to it’s known reputation of spectacular scenery overlooking the ocean. They also host glamping, horseback riding, and dining. The shuttle costs $20 to the hilltop outdoor club overlooking the ocean and it is a MUST!

2nd winery – Relieve Vinicola
It was the first time at this location, and we had it all to ourselves. The owners have a background in civil engineering and architecture well displayed in the design of the Vinicola with a vista overlooking parts of the valley. Rustic metal, huge doors, spacious, airy, and inviting.

3rd winery – Vena Cava
This was also a new winery for our personal tour. It is off the road approximately a mile in on a dirt road. It does seem a little strange driving around farms and homes, but upon arrival, you will be disappointed. The winery cleverly used old boats as their Bodega roofing, with outdoor dining overlooking a pond. I shall warn you, the ducks have laid claim to the pond and it’s quite a sight to see when they set out for a stroll up the dirt road.
