Albania is a country in southern Europe, located in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula on the Strait of Otranto, the southern entrance to the Adriatic Sea. The capital city is Tirana (Tiranë).
Albania has a mountainous geography. About three-fourths of its territory consists of mountains and hills. The Albanian population is approximately 2.88 million inhabitants, with about 113 inhabitants per square meter.
The largest populations are concentrated in the cities of Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan, Shkodra, Vlora and Korça. Other cities of tourist importance include Berat, Gjirokastra, Saranda, Kruja and Pogradec.
