A small town Trakai is a resort that belongs to the Trakai Historical National Park. Once home to Lithuanian Grand Dukes, the place is famous for its beautiful medieval castle surrounded by lakes: the Old Trakai was one of the strongest defensive cities in the 13th c. in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania when it was being attacked by knights of the Teutonic Order.
Today Trakai is a popular place to visit both among locals and foreigners. Besides its’ historical museum inside the castle, there are plenty of leisure time activities such as swimming, sailing, boating, etc.
