Before we visited the Philippines, we have always watched street food videos, here on YouTube. We watched one about Roxas Night Market in Davao City and it featured their charcoal ice cream. I knew immediately that I wanted us to visit this night market to not only eat some tasty (lami) street food, but to also indulge in this rare cool dessert.
Mighty Max’s brother, Joey, was supposed to join us, but he had too much fun drinking in the early afternoon and was wiped out from travelling from Japan the night before. So unfortunately, he was unable to join us for this festivity.
We chose many different foods to eat such as BBQ chicken (BBQ manok), chicken gizzard (totally new to me and was lami kaayo), panga (which is part of the jaw of the tuna fish) along with guso and seaweed salad.
I also got to try kwek-kwek which is a hard-boiled egg coated in an orange flour and eaten with cucumbers soaked in vinegar and salt. Even though I wasn’t able to eat quick-quick, it was lami kaayo!
Last but not least, we all indulged in having some charcoal ice cream. It was also lami kaayo (ang sarap) and tasted just like ordinary ice cream, but with the added benefits of activated charcoal.
I hope after watching this episode of the vlog that you are able to get a sense of what to expect if you are able to visit Roxas Night Market in Davao City, Philippines along with the wonderful culture of the Philippines and the warm welcome of the Filipino people in general. I love the Philippines!
