More than 150 kilometres of hiking trails and beautiful pristine nature await mountain lovers on Flumserberg, high above Lake Walen. The mountain railways comfortably take hikers up to 2020 m, where they can enjoy the breathtaking scenic views of the Swiss mountain world around them. Adventure-filled themed trails and children’s playgrounds, cosy mountain restaurants with spacious sundecks, and hikes ranging from easy to challenging: You will find everything your heart desires at the Swiss hikers paradise!
Flumserberg lies high above the southern shore of the Walensee facing the magnificent and geologically fascinating Churfirsten chain. This family-friendly resort is surrounded by varied walking country and offers many attractions for children. In winter, Flumserberg is the biggest winter sports’ region in eastern Switzerland.
The resort of Flumserberg forms a terrace stretching from 1000 m to 1400 m above the Walensee and the valley town of Flums. The ski region reaches 2222 m. By the end of the 19th century, this area had already been discovered as a centre for whey cures and its unspoilt natural beauty inspired Johanna Spyri to write her Heidi stories more than a hundred years ago.
Winter
The winter sports region of Flumserberg guarantees plenty of snow and is the biggest winter sports destination between Zurich and Chur with pistes of all levels of difficulty. For snowboarders there are fun parks and a half-pipe; and for cross country skiers the Prodalp has 18 km of cross-country trails. For even more action, visitors can try the 3-km sledge run from Prodalp to Tannenheim. Children become familiar with snow sports in two children’s parks. Cosy mountain snack bars ensure a variety of culinary delights.
Those who want to discover something new can get an introduction to the world of sled dogs in Flumserberg. From the harnessing and unharnessing of this breed of Husky dogs, through to professional guidance and silent rides as you glide through the snowy winter landscape. An unforgettable experience for dog lovers, nicely rounded up with warming mulled wine.
Summer
Today this is an excellent family-oriented resort. Popular attractions include the CLiiMBER (Alpine coaster), the FLOOMZER (a 2-km toboggan run), the high-altitude hiking paths (suitable for prams) and various themed trails such as the Trail of Legends, Heidi’s Flower Trail and the GeoTrail. To round out the attractions for children, there are facilities such as minigolf courses and fascinating adventure playgrounds.
This holiday region is also criss-crossed by a dense 150-km network of hiking and cycle paths. Also on offer are cycle tours of every level of difficulty; fishing in mountain streams/lake; and paragliding. The delightful six-hour “Seven Peaks Tour” is a perfectly safe ridge walk with magnificent panoramic views of more than 150 peaks in the St. Gallen, Grisons, Glarus and interior Swiss Alps.
The Walensee, with its many facilities for water sports, is just 20 minutes away by car. Anything is possible there, from diving to stand-up-paddling, canoeing, sailing and surfing.
