* New Caledonia is a country boasting a semi-tropical climate brimming with French and Melanesian culture. It is famous for the barrier reef surrounding the islands which features a myriad of marine life.
* The Dominican sees highs in the top 80s through August making it a good time to visit if you love the heat. Things stay warm in the evenings too so you can head out and about without getting cold. Although August is still the wet season it usually rains in short sharp bursts and often only at night
* Jamaica: August is the height of the summer in Jamaica so be prepared for high heat and humidity. Daytime highs reach into the 90s and sea temperatures are warm too which is good news for beach lovers and water-sports enthusiasts.
* What to avoid?
South Asia and Southeast Asia are at their peak of the monsoon season, with the exception of Kerala or Tamil Nadu in India, and the southern side of Indonesia – like Bali. The Middle East and the northern portion of Africa are at the peak of their summer heat. The USA can get pretty hot during August too. Keep a close watch on the Caribbean and Central America, as they are entering the peak of their hurricane season. Try to avoid them if possible. While Cuba is in its high season, it is incredibly hot and humid, and prone to cyclonic activity.
