Chiang Mai Or Chiang Rai Which Is Better [Living & Visiting]

    https://owlofasia.com/chiang-mai-or-chiang-rai-which-is-better-living-visiting/

One popular question we get asked about living in northern Thailand is Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, which is better for foreigners looking to live in Thailand? In today’s article, we will be discussing the pros and cons of living in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as a foreigner. Lastly, we will be answering which is the best city to live in (and visit) as a foreigner.

Chiang Mai Or Chiang Rai, Which Is Better To Live?
One of the main differences between the two is that Chiang Rai is somewhat more spread out. Thus you may need to travel further living in Chiang Rai compared to Chiang Mai. From the description of the pros and cons of Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai, it may seem that Chiang Mai is larger than Chiang Rai, but per landmass, Chiang Mai is slightly smaller.

Apart from a few areas that have been mentioned above, both cities are very similar. But to answer the question of Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, which is better, I would have to say looking at all the pros and cons, Chiang Mai is a better option in my personal opinion as it has much more facilities that are highly accessible to foreigners living in northern Thailand.

For those who enjoy the area of Chiang Mai but are looking for a less touristy area, then Chiang Rai would be a suitable option. Chiang Rai is a beautiful place for many expats to travel and stay in, but its quietness may not be an ideal area for long-term living.

Chiang Mai Or Chiang Rai, Which Is Better To Visit?
If you are looking for a quick visit, both cities are often recommended to visit. If you are looking for a more remote area full of nature and many natural tourist attractions, Chiang Rai is the best option. If you are looking for a more upbeat experience with great nightlife, Chiang Mai would be more appropriate.

How To Get To Chiang Mai To Chiang Rai
There are a few different options to get from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, but the most convenient is the green bus. The green bus service (it’s recommended booking a day or two in advance online) takes a few hours on average but is a great way to travel. Please feel free to look at the full video for more information on getting from Chiang Mai to Chiang Mai.
