Budapest, Hungary’s capital and sometimes referred to as the “Paris of the East,” is one of Eastern Europe’s most culturally significant cities, with multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although humans have lived in this lovely city since the Stone Age, it was only in 1872 that three previously autonomous towns—Old Buda (buda), Buda, and Pest—were merged to establish Hungary’s administrative, commercial, and industrial core.
