In 2018 whilst backpacking around South East Asia we spent a month in Cambodia. It was one of my favourite countries as it had such a good blend of beaches/islands, mountains/rivers, temples, history, culture and once in a lifetime experiences! Oh, and we also met some awesome people!
I guess you could say that it left an ever lasting impression, in the form of a scar on my face!
Our route through Cambodia was something like this:
– Kampot
– Koh Rong Sanloem
– Koh Rong
– Phnom Penh
– Battambang
– Siem Reap
A little story about my injury:
As you can see at the end of the video I split my face open after a pathetic back flip attempt off of the zip line. When I hit the water I kneed myself in the face. I knew something had happened straight away as I came up from the water as my vision was disrupted from the instant swelling under my eye (lucky I didn’t knock myself out when landing in the water!)
So it was a tuk tuk ride to the local clinic where it cost me 50 USD to have 5 stitches in my face. I had to have these in for 1 week and I could not get the stitches wet (which meant no snorkelling, especially sad as whilst in Koh Rong we went to see the glowing plankton which I had to enjoy from above the surface, still pretty amazing!)
The stitches were removed by a trainee paramedic on the island and the scar is basically now invisible (great job by the Doctor) and most would not really notice it on my face unless pointed out.
The incident happened at Arcadia Waterpark (Hostel in Kampot) which I could not recommend enough! You can get a bed for $8 a night which includes unlimited use of the water park throughout your stay! The waterpark is home made which adds to the character of the place and coupled with amazing food, drinks and social spirit its a 100% must do for anyone travelling Cambodia!
