October 2013 End of season bike tour to the glorious Isle of Skye in the Highlands.
We set of from the Midlands early am in torrential rain. Torrential rain that did not stop for 4-5 hrs! Was horrible. When we arrived at Loch Lomond, it pretty much stopped, and the sun shone through for us. Camping in Oban for the 1st night. Nice to have a few beers and “locally caught sausage” after a long, wet day’s riding.
Having to set the tent down in more torrential rain, though, was not an ideal way to start day 2. Moving up toward Mallaig ferry port now, to cross onto Skye. Wow! What a place. Everything that’s ever been written about this majestical place is correct and true. Camp no2 was in Uig Bay. Very friendly owners, whose young son played the bagpipes for us as we rode off after a lovely big full English breakfast. Moving up to the peak of Skye now, to Kilt Rock. Views here are spectacular. We left Skye via the Skye bridge, and headed down to Fort William, but not before heading slightly north to ride the awesome Applecross Pass. Had to be a B&B in Fort Billy, few more beers and a curry saw us toasting the end to another super year of touring, and to all in 2014!
