Reflecting on 2021 is strange and somewhat contradicting for us: it feels like a lifetime ago that we were stuck in South Africa during Covid-19 lockdowns. At the same time, we have managed to see and do so much in the last 6 months that we have been in Europe, including purchasing our very first Campervan. As much as we hope that 2022 will bring with it positive changes and some form of “normality”, we are also grateful for our good health and all that we have been able to experience over the past year. This was our 2021 in summary.

It’s been almost 4 years since we’ve embraced a minimalistic and fully nomadic lifestyle. This was not an overnight decision. It was a goal we worked towards for 2 decades. We have always prioritised travel as a way to satisfy our most basic curiosity – to depart from regular life into something new, even if only briefly, before returning to ‘normality’. Normality, however, is subjective and when you travel to unfamiliar places, you lose your grounding, your bearings – it challenges everything you consider ‘normal’ about life. Everything is unordinary. Everything is important. Everything requires your attention. You understand that because you have no home, every place can equally be your home. More importantly, time is of the essence.
