During this two-days walking adventure in Belgrade, we passed 36,000 steps, 21 km and enjoyed in spirit of capital city of Serbia, people, buildings and atmosphere. That will be not an option if we used a car. In this video you are watching first part of fist day.

SLAVIJA SQUARE is a major commercial junction, previously known as Dimitrije Tucović Square. Scottish businessman and Nazarene Francis Mackenzie, bought a large piece of land above the present square and parcelled it for sale. Mackenzie built a house for himself at Slavija (at the place where the old “Slavija” cinema used to be), which in 1910 was turned into the Socialist People’s Center, a gathering place of the worker’s movement. In that place now stands the board, which you saw in the video.

KARADJORDJE: Djordje Petrovic, better known as Karadjordj, was a Serbian revolutionary who fought for the independence of his country from the Ottoman Empire during the First Serbian Uprising of 1804-1813. Karadjordje is considered the founder of the Karadjordjevic dynasty, which ruled Serbia at several intervals during the 19th and 20th centuries. His murder led to a violent, decades-long quarrel between his descendants and the descendants of Obrenović, during which the Serbian throne changed hands several times.
