Higher prices aren’t stopping travelers. That’s according to Booking CEO Glen Fogel. He says people are fed up with staying home and after two years of pandemic restrictions “prices can be really high and people are saying “I don’t care, I just want to travel.” In a recent @CNBC interview, Fogel stated that the spike in inflation hasn’t yet caused a slowdown in Spring and Summer travel. But Fogel said it would certainly help if the US followed other countries and lifted inbound testing restrictions. That would assist in the recovery of international travel. And although Fogel expects a strong summer travel season for the US and Western Europe, he stated that Asia’s recovery continues to lag and the war in Ukraine has damped Eastern Europe travel.
He also cautioned travelers to not wait to book their summer trips. Demand is surging and prices are only going up. And as virus cases decline into the summer, demand will only increase further. If you’re planning to take a trip this summer it’s time to call your travel advisor and book it now. Don’t wait or you’ll regret it. Cruise lines and airlines are reporting record booking levels as two years of pent-up demand roars back. Travelers just want to go somewhere and they have the money in their bank accounts to pay for it. It’s shaping up to be a record summer season. I think we’ve all earned that.
