Let’s take a walk to Cathedral of Saint-Pierre de Montpellier. We will start walking from Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle also known as Esplanade de la Comédie through medieval streets to visit this magnificent Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Montpellier Cathedral is located in the Crest, heart of the old town, it is the most important Gothic monument in the city of Montpellier and the largest church in the former Languedoc-Roussillon region. The Cathedral was originally the chapel of the Monastery-College of St. Benedict St. Germain, founded in 1364, by Pope Urban V. This church was erected as a cathedral in 1536, when the episcopal see was transferred from Maguelone to Montpellier.

The Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle or Esplanade de la Comédie is a square in Montpellier. This space is named after the former President of the French Republic Charles de Gaulle (1890-1970). It is in the continuity of the Place de la Comédie. It is lined with plane trees, brightened by many fountains and includes a wooded park (the Champ-de-Mars garden). It is the forecourt of the Lycée Joffre, installed since 1947 in the former citadel of Montpellier.
