On June 16, 2022, I visited Kaisei Hydrangea Village in Shinmatsuda, Kanagawa Prefecture. The hydrangeas here began when 5,000 plants were planted about 40 years ago. The hydrangea festival is held every year, although it was over when I visited. Hydrangeas appear in several classical Japanese poems. However, hydrangeas are often used as a complement rather than a subject. It is said that forehead hydrangeas were more common in old Japan.
