Boracay had always been on top of our family vacation plan since 2014. Unfortunately, things didn’t always turn right whenever we attempt to visit the famous island. Last October 2019, our first travel dream to get to the renowned beach just popped out of our heads and suddenly booked tickets and accommodations. My father, who’s working in Dubai, came home at exactly Christmas day just to spend our holidays in the island. Unexpectedly, a typhoon hit the whole province of Aklan last December 25 and all the flights were cancelled for three days. Rebooking an ideal date was very frustrating because of my father’s limited time, high price tag brought by the holiday season and the tremendous shooting up of people competing for the flights.

Long story short, we were able to get to the island on 27th of December and our planned week-long stay was cut for four and a half days. At that time, there was no regular electricity in the island, the streets were mostly dark at night, no network connection and the debris were all over the place. Imagine how we slept at night with only one electric fan on and off during the night. We had to go to cafes with electricity generators to take advantage of the free charging. To make the experience most memorable, my father had severe diarrhea during the first two days while I had a scorching 39.9C fever during our last two days (probably because of stress during the toxic flight rebooking procedures and door-to-door inquiry for hotels in Boracay). Nevertheless, we tried to make the most out of the situation and still enjoyed some activities.

I’ve been to some places and made videos of the rising and setting of the sun and Puka beach has so far, the best sunset I’ve seen. Bulabog beach also has a very impressive sunrise view, although the water and sand are not as beautiful as on the white beach of the island. Overall, I was still thankful to God that He protected us despite the circumstances. There were so many travel lessons that I’ve learn from this experience. Should I go back to Boracay? Definitely yes, because I know that I could enjoy it more on my next travel.

(Coming back to Boracay in 2022)
My first time in Boracay in 2019 didn’t leave much good stories as we encountered endless unfortunate events that time, such as delayed flights, blackouts and me having severe flu to name just a few. Nonetheless, it was a quality time with my family.

Praise God for allowing us to recreate good memories and experiences this year and more importantly, for allowing our family in sharing the gospel to our relatives while we were enjoying our vacation.

Looking back, I realised that this year, God has enabled us to have a better spiritual perspective and goal as a family. In 2019, we were more focused on our entitlement unlike this year where we celebrated God’s goodness in our family by sharing His gift of salvation to fellow relatives.

In Romans 14:15, it says, ..โ€œHow beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!โ€

I’m always in awe of how God continuously transforms our hearts each day and I pray that all our relatives will experience Jesus’ overflowing love in their lives as well.
