Located in western Japan, Hiroshima Peace Park Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima. The park spans over 120,000 square metres in downtown Hiroshima.
After World War II, the government turned the area into a memorial.
The park includes a memorial museum, murals, a cenotaph with an eternal flame and several touching monuments. Monuments are decorated with flowers and colourful orizuru (paper cranes) donated by local school children. The site also includes the Genbaku Dome which survived the blast.
Today, the UNESCO-listed dome stands as a symbol of peace.
