The National Museum of Indonesia is located at Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat No. 12 Central Jakarta. The National Museum is also known as the Elephant Museum because it was presented with a bronze elephant statue by King Chulalongkorn of Thailand in 1871 which was then installed in the front yard of the museum. However, since May 28, 1979, the official name of this institution is the National Museum of the Republic of Indonesia. The National Museum is a museum of archeology, history, ethnography and geography. This museum is the first and largest museum in Southeast Asia.
