A day trip to Hamburg DownTown | Neuer Wall and Surrounding areas

Our today’s day tour starts with S Bahn trains which takes 35 mins to reach downtown from any end of Hamburg. We make a stop at Stadthausbruke station as it has a very nice coffee shop 🙂

The S-Bahn station has been redesigned since March 2018. It is named after the famous stadthausbrucke bridge which was named after the Town Hall (stadthaus in German) on its east side. The Town Hall was built in 1814 by extending the 1710 built Görtz-Palais, as the seat Building for city administration and Police.

It is now owned by a private company and host numerous commercial and business establishments

The whole area around Stadthausbrucke is filled with ancient buildings and a charming canal which connects to Alster Lake.

The Church of St. Nicholas..It was the tallest building in the world from 1874 to 1876
It was mostly destroyed in the bombing of Hamburg in 1943 during World War II

Most of these buildings were destroyed during 2nd World War and was reconstructed keeping same architecture and design
