Mandalay is perhaps the best known city in Myanmar / Burma, at least many know the name of it, probably thanks to Sinatra and his song “On the Road to Mandalay”. As a matter a fact I’m constantly surprised by how little most people know about Myanmar, many have not even heard the name, and very few people know where it is. I have even been at an airport, checking in, traveling towards Myanmar and the staff didn’t recognise or know there was a country named Myanmar.
Back to Mandalay, Mandalay is in central Myanmar and it´s the former capital of the country but now plays as an important city for trade. It´s an historic site therefore there is a lot to photograph within and around this city. The most famous place in Mandalay is without a doubt the U-Bein Bridge… the longest footbridge in the world, 1,2 kilometers long with over a 1.000 teak posts supporting it.
People at work, monks, Temples, every day normal life which is always my favorite to shoot… Mandalay has everything that a travel photographer needs to engage in amazing Travel Photography.
