The place de la Grande Fontaine is located in Saint-Paul de Vence in southern France. The fountain in the provençal style was built in 1615 by Melchior Martin, a stonemason from the village. The water pours into the basin through 4 cannons.

Place de la Fontaine hosted the stalls of traders and hawkers. Charles II of Anjou had authorized, in 1285, to hold a market there every Saturday. In 1615, approval was given that the market could also be held there on Wednesdays. On St. Luke’s Day, there was a vegetable fair at the site.

Saint-Paul de Vence is one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera. Well known for its modern and contemporary art galleries and for the 17-century Saint Charles-Saint Claude chapel, which in 2012–2013 was decorated with murals by French artist Paul Conte.
