SUBSCRIBE: – Let’s go to Greece and let’s visit the concrete pillboxes (bunkers) built by the Germans in order to protect that Corinth Canal during WW2. The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea by cutting through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and by separating the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. The Canal was of vital importance to the Germans because most of the supplies for Rommel’s armies (for the North African campaign) had to pass through it.
The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, arguably making the peninsula an island. The canal was dug through the Isthmus at sea level and has no locks.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it’s often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
