Frankfurt:
In Germany, all roads lead to Frankfurt. That should be taken literally, by the way, as the economic powerhouse in the belly of the country has Germany’s biggest Autobahn interchange, its busiest train station and biggest airport. A veritably mass of humanity pulses through Frankfurt every single day.

Pisa:
Pisa was a major Roman port, but the Arno River has since silted up, leaving it 10 kilometers inland. In 1063, Pisa’s navy was instrumental in defeating the Saracens at Messina and Palermo, beginning Pisa’s rise to control Mediterranean shipping. The cathedral was built in thanks for these victories and enriched by booty brought back by its fleet in the First Crusade.

Rome:
The magic of Rome is well documented, to say the least, but it can still be easy to overlook just how many awesome things there are to do here. The Italian capital is right up with the most famous cities on the planet, a former capital of the world, a city of vast archaeological treasures, iconic art collections and enough cultural heritage to last a lifetime. The Eternal City does not disappoint.

Milan:
Milan is an absolute behemoth of a city and has the most populated metropolitan area in Italy with 1.3 million people, and 3.2 million in the wider area surrounding central Milan. Some form of human settlement has been present in the region of Milan for thousands of years and archaeological findings date back as far as 222 BC. Indeed at one point, Milan served as the capital of the Western Roman Empire.

Innsbruck:
Innsbruck is a colorful, picturesque city nestled in the Austrian Alps. Its biggest draw is its location. Innsbruck sits in a valley and it surrounded by enormous, snow-capped mountains. This is a city with endless views…ride cable cars to the mountain peaks, visit a ski jump, or climb the Town Tower for unbeatable views. With its close proximity to Italy and Germany, Innsbruck makes a great stop on a road trip or railway trip through Europe.

Zurich:
Set alongside a shimmering lake and framed by alpine mountains, Zurich seamlessly blends the indoor and outdoor. Take a stroll around the Old Town, check hip attractions like the Viadukt and then take a dip in a ‘badi’ – open-air swimming pools beloved by locals. For the best views, hop on a train and head towards a nearby mountain, or for high life of a different kind, eyeball Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most expensive shopping streets. Zurich also loves to party, with an exciting network of bars and clubs open into the small hours and beyond.

Lucerne:
The city of Lucerne (Luzern in German) is a popular stop for most people visiting Switzerland. The city is well known for its stunning medieval architecture and its stunning location on the edge of Lake Lucerne amid snow capped mountains. Many people touring Switzerland spend at least a few days in Lucerne. Two to three days is plenty of time to explore all the main Lucerne tourist attractions, make a day trip, as well as slowing down and soaking up the atmosphere.
