In this video, I do a deep dive into Communism in Albania and the 4 decades under Enver Hoxha where the country became increasingly more and more isolated from the rest of the world. After interesting relations with Stalin and then Mao, Hoxha and Albania reached the point where no one could get in or out, no information could get in or out, trying to escape the country and consuming foreign media could send someone and their family to prison. The paranoid dictator held the country in an iron grip with his harsh measures and his terrifying secret police, the Sigurimi, and it’s network of tens of thousands of informants. This is the story of how it all played out and how the country finally went back to normalcy.
