RD24153(vid). The Seaton Tramway is a narrow gauge (2ft 9ins) tramway that runs from Seaton on the East Devon coast to the small town of Colyton some three miles inland; this is where this short video starts as we set off on the return journey to Seaton.
Before we can begin the journey though, we have to wait for another tram to clear the single line and this is car no. 16; this was built in 1921 for the Bournemouth Tramways and is now a closed single-decker useful in wet weather and for driver training.
The video ends as we arrive at Colyford Station but will be continued as time permits.
If anyone is wondering about the title of this part of the video, it comes from a 1908 Music Hall number by George Lashford and it’s about an impecunious couple who do their courting on the upper deck of a tramcar. They live in a town and can’t have romantic walks in the countryside, so the next best thing is to “go, go go for ride on a car, car, car…”
