Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most popular national park in the USA, almost took our breath away in its stunning mountain scenery and hiking trails, including the famous Appalachian Trail.
One of the oldest mountains in the world, the Appalachians got its name in the same way as the Dumbara Mountains in Sri Lanka, meaning ‘eternally clad in fog’. Many attarctions make this park famous. Among them are; the Clingmans Dome, the second highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains or in the entire eastern USA, black bears, elk, and the world’s longest ‘hiking only’ trail, the famous Appalachian Trail.
