1 Day – 4 Swiss trains
We had a day to enjoy Zurich, but the forecast was rain, rain, rain, so we decided to explore a bit of Switzerland by rail, see some of this beautiful country and enjoy the world-famous Swiss train network.
Our journey would be long, involved 4 different trains and cover a large chuck of the eastern part of Switzerland. We booked first class, so the carriages would not be busy, and we would always get a window seat.
Zurich – Lucerne 41 minutes // 50 km
Follows the shores of Zurichsee before heading into the mountains
Lucerne to Interlaken 1.48 hours// 75 km
Absolute stunning journey, very scenic with lakes, mountains, little villages, and beautiful vistas
Interlaken to Bern 53 minutes // 55 km
Some nice lake and mountain views as we left Interlaken.
Bern to Zurich 1 hour // 125 km
More intercity train, passing smaller cities and lots of industry.
Of the four train journeys we took that day, the most scenic was the Lucerne to Interlaken by far, with its rolling mountain views, passing typical Swiss villages and many lakes, it was spectacular.
