I had given myself 5 full days in Sofia. This was enough time to see all the things I wanted to see and also to make a day trip to one of Bulgaria’s most famous and most popular sites: Rila Monastery.
Built in the 10th century, this Eastern Orthodox monastery is known as the ‘Jerusalem of Bulgaria’. The wall paintings are worth the visit alone.
