Today’s English Village walk was through the lovely and quite large village of Welford on Avon, a typical English village with amazing thatched properties some very historic inns, and a maypole that is thought to be one of the largest in the country. Welford on Avon appeared in the doomsday book and its church st peter is from around the 1300s, If you’re a fan of countryside walking there are some great public footpaths that take you along the river Avon too.
According to popular legend, William Shakespeare came here to share a drink with Ben Jonson. While walking home from Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare walked home in heavy rain and caught a fatal case of pneumonia.
