In thirteen days (Sept 4 2022 till Sept 17 2021) with the eMTB from Lausanne in Switzerland all across the Westalps to Nice in the South of France.
Due to the long distance this tour was splitted in two parts. The second part includes the following stages (only one day rain on day 11 ):
0:00:40 1. Susa – Perosa Argentina: 50.8km/1.682alt – Col delle Finestre
0:11:52 2. Perosa Argentina – Torre Pellice: 49.9km/1.750alt – Col Lazzara and Colle Vaccera
0:19:31 3. Torre Pellice – Sampeyre: 65.4km/1.758alt – Colle del Prete
0:31:16 4. Sampeyre – Marmora: 43.6km/1.624alt – Colle di Sampeyre
0:40:03 5. Marmura – Vinadio: 48.8km/1.510alt – Gardetta plateau
0:51:13 6. Vinadio – Rimplas: 64.3km/1.951alt – Col de la Lombarde
1:02:28 7. Rimplas – Nice: 67.4km/484alt – Mediterranean Sea
In total the tour was 750km long with 20.500 altimeter.
Three mechanical supports are out of the calculation: Train from Martigny to Finhaut, cable car le Prarion in Les Houches and the regional train from Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne to Modane.
The tour was made with the Rotwild RC750 (2020) eMTB. The battery was never complete empty at the end of the day. Mostly was the eco mode sufficient. Only on steep ramps was the tour mode used.
The bike made during the tour a very good job. It was only necessary to put oil on the chain. Only on day six was an accident that effected the control unit on the handlebar with the result that water penetrated the unit on the rainy day eleven. That’s why the rest of the tour was made without motor support and only with muscle power 🙂
The route followed some classical tours that are available in the net (e.g. outdooractive.com). Furthermore a book from Achim Zahn was very useful in the planning.
The ultimate aim was to reduce the push/carry stages to a minimum. Most of the tour was made on asphalt and sandy or forest tracks. Some trails (S0-S2) were added on a daily basis.
The WestalpX was planned with Komoot and Google Earth. Komoot was also the navigation application on the tour.
The videos were made with the GoPro 10Black which was fixed on the handlebar. The drone recordings came from the DJI Mini 3 pro and photos came from the iPhone 12pro. The project was finally mixed in Adobe Premiere Elements 2023.
Lean back and relax, enjoy the movie. I am more than happy to get some feedback. Please be so kind and write something constructive when you put your “thumbs down”.
Thank you 🙂
